     AN ACT Relating to voter registration for high school students; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.300 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.300 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) The superintendent of public instruction, with the assistance of the secretary of state and the Washington association of county auditors, shall develop a voter registration and education program for high school students.  The program shall include a pamphlet containing a voter registration card and directions on how to register to vote and information that county auditors may provide demonstrations of voting equipment and other programs on request.  The superintendent of public instruction shall disseminate information on the program to all high schools in the state.

     (2) The secretary of state in cooperation with the Washington state association of county auditors shall design and provide a standard notice informing students of the availability of voter registration, which notice shall be posted in each high school.
