     AN ACT Relating to teachers' retirement; and adding a new section to chapter 41.32 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 41.32 RCW to read as follows:

     Certificated school employees having experience in other states may receive credit for out-of-state experience toward retirement under the state retirement systems by paying to the department the amount of money that would have been contributed for the period of out-of-state service with interest as computed by the director.  The election to claim out-of-state service shall be made within five years of the effective date of this section for current employees and within five years of enrollment in the retirement system for new employees. Within ninety days of eligibility to claim such credit, the director shall notify the employee of this option.  Credit for out-of-state experience shall be made upon full payment of the amount determined by the department.
