Read first time February 27, 1991.  Requiring an automatic fire-extinguishing system for certain school district construction.


     AN ACT Relating to school construction standards for fire prevention and safety; adding new sections to chapter 48.48 RCW; adding new sections to chapter 19.27 RCW; and providing an effective date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 48.48 RCW to read as follows:

     All buildings housing E-1 occupancies, as defined in the state building code, except portable school classrooms and other portable school facilities on school district property, constructed after the effective date of this section, shall be provided with an automatic fire-extinguishing system designed in accordance with national fire protection standards and approved by the director of community development, through the director of fire protection.  This section shall not apply to buildings in which permits for construction of the structure are applied for before the effective date of this section.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 48.48 RCW to read as follows:

     The director of community development through the director of fire protection shall adopt rules to implement section 1 of this act.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  A new section is added to chapter 19.27 RCW to read as follows:
