Read first time March 6, 1991.  Providing for the expansion of programs for developmentally disabled adults.


     AN ACT Relating to the expansion of private community programs for adults with developmental disabilities; adding a new section to chapter 71A.12 RCW; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 71A.12 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) The legislature finds that adults with developmental disabilities who do not receive publicly funded residential, employment, or other appropriate day program services do not reach their full potential.  Often, students with developmental disabilities who leave school are unable to find employment or other appropriate day program services.

     (2) Effective July 1, 1991, the secretary of the department of social and health services shall expand private community programs for adults with developmental disabilities to ensure that all such persons graduating from secondary school are provided appropriate residential, employment, or other appropriate day program services.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.      This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
