     AN ACT Relating to legislators who request a reduction in salary; adding a new section to chapter 43.03 RCW; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 43.03 RCW to read as follows:

     A member of the legislature may elect to refuse an increase or request a decrease in the member's annual salary during the member's term in office.  The member shall make this election by filing a statement with the state treasurer and secretary of state identifying the member by name and district, stating when the member's term will expire, and the reduced salary amount the member desires.  The election amount shall be the member's actual salary for that year.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.      This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
