     AN ACT Relating to public hospital districts; adding a new section to chapter 70.44 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 70.44 RCW to read as follows:

     A majority of the commissioners of a public hospital district may not either:  (1) Hold hospital privileges as physicians at a hospital that is owned or operated by the public hospital district; or (2) be employed by the public hospital district.

     When a violation of this section occurs, the commissioner who was last elected and is either a physician with hospital privileges at a public district hospital or is employed by the district, is subject to the penalties provided in RCW 42.23.050.
