     AN ACT Relating to the sale of firearms near schools and residential areas; and adding a new section to chapter 9.41 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 9.41 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) No person may engage in the retail sale of firearms within five hundred feet of the perimeter of any school grounds, or adjacent to a single-family residential zone as identified in a local land use ordinance.

     (2) A city, town, or county may not issue a pistol dealer's license under RCW 9.41.110 or a business license to any person in the business of the retail sale of firearms if the business will be conducted within five hundred feet of the perimeter of any school grounds, or adjacent to a single-family residential zone as identified in a local land use ordinance.

     (3) Businesses existing on the effective date of this section that engage in the retail sale of firearms are exempt from this section until January 1, 1995.
