     AN ACT Relating to candidate residency requirements; and adding new sections to chapter 29.30 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 29.30 RCW to read as follows:

     Election officers shall review filings to determine that candidates are registered to vote in the district for which they file.  No candidate's name may be placed on a ballot if the county elections officer or the secretary of state finds the candidate is not registered to vote within the geographic area required in order to assume the office if elected.

     This section does not apply to candidates for the United States senate and United States house of representatives.

 

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 29.30 RCW to read as follows:

     Each county, municipal corporation, or special district shall provide to the appropriate election officer the most current information describing its geographical boundaries and the geographical boundaries of its director, council, or commissioner districts.
