     AN ACT Relating to legislative review of compacts negotiated under the federal Indian gaming regulatory act of 1988; and adding a new section to chapter 9.46 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 9.46 RCW to read as follows:

     Recognizing that compacts required under the federal Indian gaming regulatory act, P.L. 100-497, between the state of Washington and an Indian tribe as defined in P.L. 100-497 are intended to reflect public policy as reflected in state and federal statutes and applicable judicial decisions, the joint legislative committee on Indian gaming compacts is created to review proposed compacts.  The committee consists of the speaker and the minority leader of the house of representatives, the majority leader and the minority leader of the senate, and four members appointed jointly by the speaker of the house of representatives and the majority leader of the senate, all of whom shall be voting members.  The committee shall elect a member from the senate and a member from the house of representatives as cochairs.
