     AN ACT Relating to defendants' access to copies of discovery materials; and adding a new section to chapter 10.58 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 10.58 RCW to read as follows:

     Any person against whom a criminal complaint or information has been filed is entitled to receive a copy of any discovery materials that the applicable court rules require to be disclosed to a defendant.  This provision is not intended to restrict the court's authority to issue protective orders to restrict or defer access where appropriate.
