     AN ACT Relating to public assistance medical care for treatment of ailments of the human foot; and adding new sections to chapter 74.09 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 74.09 RCW to read as follows:

     The legislature finds that the treatment of foot conditions by podiatric physicians is a cost-effective means of providing foot care services.  Therefore, it is the intent of the legislature that state-funded programs include coverage for treatment by podiatric physicians on the same terms and conditions as other physicians providing foot care services.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 74.09 RCW to read as follows:

     When medical assistance, medical care, or medical care services, including physician's services, are provided under this chapter for the treatment of ailments of the human foot, the treatment shall be performed by a podiatric physician licensed under chapter 18.22 RCW, an osteopathic physician licensed under chapter 18.57 RCW, or a medical physician under chapter 18.71 RCW, acting within their respective scope of licensure.
