HB 1278 - DIGEST

 

      Provides that an employer that relocates, terminates, or transfers the ownership in a business is liable to the employers for severance pay at the rate of one month's pay for each year of service, not to exceed twelve months' pay.

      Specifies situations when an employer is not liable for severance pay.

      Provides that employers may not avoid the obligation by discharging employees prior to closing the business.

      Authorizes legal action to enforce the employee's rights.

      Authorizes a lien for moneys owing under the provisions of the act.
