HB 1741 - DIGEST

 

      Provides that victims of domestic violence are entitled to receive appropriate counseling and a one-time assistance award to aid in emergency relocation.

      Revises assault and reckless endangerment penalties.

      Requires domestic violence counselors to obtain a certificate to provide treatment.

      Establishes a domestic violence perpetrator counselors advisory committee.

      Prohibits release of client records.

      Establishes a technical assistance grant program to assist local communities in determining how to respond to domestic violence.

      Directs the appropriate standing committees of the legislature to undertake studies of various domestic violence issues.

      Makes an appropriation of four million dollars to carry out the purposes of the act.
