    Strike everything after the enacting clause and insert the following:

    "NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  In order to develop information to be used by the legislature in evaluating proposals to modify the work-related death and disability benefits available to law enforcement personnel and fire fighters, including proposals to recodify RCW 41.26.281, the staff of appropriate policy and fiscal committees of the senate and house of representatives shall conduct a study of:

    (1) The disability benefits available under plans I and II of the law enforcement and fire fighters' retirement system under chapter 41.26 RCW;

    (2) The disability benefits available under state industrial insurance pursuant to Title 51 RCW;

    (3) Remedies available under the civil tort system;

    (4) Any other disability benefits available under federal social security or other programs; and

    (5) A comparison of industrial insurance and/or civil tort remedies

available in other jurisdictions.

    This information shall be submitted to the appropriate committees of the legislature by December 15, 1994."
