Providing paid leave for certain employees.


          AN ACT Relating to state civil and higher education employees; adding a new section to chapter 28B.16 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 41.06 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.16 RCW to read as follows:

          All higher education institutions and postsecondary institutions shall provide paid leave for employees subject to this chapter who are volunteering their services, either when in training or responding to a call, as fire fighters, law enforcement officers, search and rescue team members, emergency medical technicians, or American red cross trained disaster relief workers.  Paid leave for training purposes under this section shall not exceed ten days during each calendar year.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 41.06 RCW to read as follows:

          All state agencies and departments shall provide paid leave for employees subject to this chapter who are volunteering their services, either when in training or responding to a call, as fire fighters, law enforcement officers, search and rescue team members, emergency medical technicians, or American red cross trained disaster relief workers.  Paid leave for training purposes under this section shall not exceed ten days during each calendar year.
