Establishing pension credit for law enforcement officers who are qualified under a prior pension system.

          AN ACT Relating to establishing pension credit for law enforcement officers who are qualified under a prior pension system; adding a new section to chapter 41.26 RCW; and declaring an emergency.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 41.26 RCW under the subchapter heading "Plan I" to read as follows:

          A plan I member's service as a police cadet under a prior pension system shall be creditable under plan I, if such service is now creditable under a prior pension system, when such total service as a police cadet and police officer under the prior pension system and plan I exceeds thirty years.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
