Establishing project export build.


          AN ACT Relating to project export build; adding a new section to chapter 43.31 RCW; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 43.31 RCW to read as follows:

          The department shall establish project export build, a three-step program to develop support for small to medium-sized business in Washington that are interested in initiating or expanding export trade.  To implement the program, the department shall contract with the world trade center in Tacoma to set up, administer, and provide activity reports on a program that establishes a public-private partnership to:

          (1) Cooperate with technical institutes and colleges to conduct a series of seminars introducing small and medium-sized businesses to the world trade market;

          (2) Provide workshops at the world trade center in Tacoma on export trade resources available to Washington businesses.  These workshops shall be cosponsored by the United States department of commerce, the small business administration, the service corps of retired executives, and the export assistance program; and

          (3) Provide eligible businesses membership to the world trade center in Tacoma so as to use trade center assets to access a global research network, enter world-wide trade operations, and establish world business markets.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  The sum of seventy-five thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1995, from the general fund to the department of trade and economic development for the purposes of this act.
