Providing information on community colleges and technical colleges to high school dropouts and high school students at risk of dropping out of school.


          AN ACT Relating to common school dropouts; adding a new section to chapter 28B.50 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.175 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.50 RCW to read as follows:

          The office of superintendent of public instruction and the state board for community and technical colleges shall work cooperatively to provide community and technical college admissions and general program information to high school students who are at risk of dropping out or who have dropped out of a Washington state common school before obtaining a high school diploma.  The superintendent of public instruction shall provide, after receiving the proper consent from the student or his or her parent, the name and address of those students who are at risk of dropping out or who have dropped out to the state board for community and technical colleges.   The state board for community and technical colleges shall provide to each student identified by the office of superintendent of public instruction written notification of admissions policies and procedures for the community colleges and the technical colleges within the student's district.
