Developing visible proof of auto insurance.


          AN ACT Relating to proof of motor vehicle liability insurance; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The department of licensing shall develop and recommend legislation to establish an identification system for demonstrating compliance with state-required motor vehicle liability insurance.  The system must rely upon some form of decal, sticker, or other mark to be affixed to the motor vehicle for clear observation by law enforcement officials.  In developing and recommending such a system, the department shall strive to minimize fiscal impact, use existing departmental systems, maintain the integrity of current vehicle registration programs, and limit the disruption of existing insurance company practices.  The department shall present its recommendations to the legislature by December 1, 1993.
