Requiring the department of corrections to consider perimeter security options that do not include guard towers.



    AN ACT Relating to enhanced prison security; adding a new section to chapter 72.09 RCW; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 72.09 RCW to read as follows:

    The department of corrections shall consider perimeter security options that do not include perimeter guard towers requiring personnel for all medium and maximum security correctional facilities designed and scheduled for construction after December 12, 1994, by the department.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
