Authorizing use of closed circuit television in court procedural hearings.



    AN ACT Relating to court administration; adding a new section to chapter 2.28 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 3.02 RCW; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The legislature recognizes the value of conducting judicial proceedings with closed circuit television and other electronic equipment and requests the supreme court to adopt rules to govern the use of electronic technology in court proceedings.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 2.28 RCW to read as follows:

    Unless inconsistent with rules adopted by the supreme court, courts of record may conduct procedural hearings by using closed circuit television or other electronic equipment to facilitate the efficiency and security under which those proceedings are conducted.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  A new section is added to chapter 3.02 RCW to read as follows:

    Unless inconsistent with rules adopted by the supreme court, courts of limited jurisdiction may conduct procedural hearings by using closed circuit television or other electronic equipment to facilitate the efficiency and security under which those proceedings are conducted.
