Exempting photography studios from cosmetology licensing requirements.



    AN ACT Relating to exempting photography studios from cosmetology licensing requirements; amending RCW 18.16.080; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    Sec. 1.  RCW 18.16.080 and 1984 c 208 s 19 are each amended to read as follows:

    Nothing in this chapter prohibits any person authorized under the laws of this state from performing any service for which the person may be licensed, nor prohibits any person from performing services as an electrologist if that person has been otherwise certified, registered, or trained as an electrologist.

    This chapter does not apply to persons employed in the care or treatment of patients in hospitals or employed in the care of residents of nursing homes and similar residential care facilities.

    This chapter does not apply to any person employed in a photography studio who styles, curls, or teases a customer's hair, without employing chemicals, to prepare the customer for a photography session.  This chapter also does not apply to a photography studio, unless the studio employs a person to perform services for which the person is required to be licensed under this chapter.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
