State of Washington      53rd Legislature     1994 Regular Session

By Representatives Cooke, Mielke, Sheahan, Ballasiotes, Dyer, Van Luven, Brough, L. Thomas, Carlson, B. Thomas, Backlund, McMorris, Fuhrman, Talcott, Wood, Schoesler, Horn, Silver and Long

Read first time 01/24/94.  Referred to Committee on Human Services.

Requiring the department of social and health services to participate in the aid to families with dependent children optional fraud program.

AN ACT Relating to public assistance fraud; adding a new section to chapter 74.12 RCW; and creating a new section.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The legislature finds that fraud involving the receipt of public assistance undermines public support for these programs and misuses limited state resources.  The legislature further finds that recipients who legitimately require public assistance are unfairly stigmatized because of people who receive public assistance through fraud.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 74.12 RCW to read as follows:

The department of social and health services shall participate in the aid to families with dependent children optional fraud program and shall seek the maximum federal assistance available for the program.
