Requiring a creditor to tell a debtor which collection agency a debt was assigned to.



          AN ACT Relating to collection agencies; and adding a new section to chapter 19.16 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 19.16 RCW to read as follows:

          When a creditor cannot collect a debt and assigns a debt to a collection agency, the creditor has a duty to inform the debtor that the debt has been assigned, and give the debtor the name of the collection agency that has been assigned the debt.
