Limiting political contributions of municipal bond dealers.



    AN ACT Relating to municipal bond dealers; adding a new section to chapter 43.33 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 43.33 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) No municipal bond broker or dealer, municipal finance professional employed by a municipal bond broker or dealer, or political action committee controlled by one or more municipal bond brokers or dealers may directly or indirectly pay or use, or offer, consent, or agree to pay or use any money or thing of value for or in aid of a candidacy for public office of a member of the state finance committee or a candidate for the office of governor, lieutenant governor, or state treasurer.

    (2) No fiscal agent under contract to the state of Washington through the state finance committee, professional employee of such fiscal agent who services the contract, or political action committee controlled by such fiscal agent may directly or indirectly pay or use, or offer, consent, or agree to pay or use any money or thing of value for or in aid of a candidacy for public office of a member of the state finance committee or a candidate for the office of governor, lieutenant governor, or state treasurer.

    (3) An individual who violates a provision of this section, or who participates in, aids, abets, advises, or consents to any such violation, or who solicits or knowingly receives money in violation of this section, is guilty of a gross misdemeanor.
