Majority Report:  Do pass.

Staff:  Jean Six (786-7423)

Background:  Since 1979, the Legislature has encouraged fair business practices and high quality in private postsecondary education.  In 1986, the Legislature amended statute to assist students in evaluating private vocational school programs and obtaining refunds in the event of their withdrawal or school cancellation or closure.  In 1987, legislation was implemented authorizing the establishment of a tuition recovery fund for the benefit and protection of students of private, nondegree-granting vocational schools.

In 1994, the Legislature created a separate account within the tuition recovery fund to cover degree-granting private vocational schools. The current law incorrectly references the citation for the tuition recovery fund.

Summary of Bill:   Internal references to the tuition recovery fund are corrected.

Effective Date:  The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect immediately.
