Brief Description: Authorizing community and technical colleges to retain private legal counsel or employ the services of the attorney general.

 

Background:  Institutions of higher education are required to use the services of the attorney general for legal proceedings.  During the 1995-97 biennium approximately 31 full-time equivalent (FTE) assistant attorney generals were assigned to represent institutions of higher education.  The total budgeted for salaries and support was $8.3 million dollars.

 

Summary:  Community and technical colleges may use the services of the attorney general's office or hire private legal counsel.
