BACKGROUND:

 

A state official, and persons employed by or acting on behalf of a state official, may not solicit or accept contributions to a public office fund, an authorized committee, or to retire a campaign debt during certain periods associated with legislative sessions.  These periods include thirty days prior to a regular session, a regular session, thirty days after a regular session, and any special session.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The prohibition on state officials soliciting or accepting contributions during certain periods associated with legislative sessions is expanded to include persons who have been elected as state officials.

 

 

FISCAL NOTE:  Not requested.

 

 

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
