Title:  An act relating to the WorkFirst program;  amending RCW 74.08A.010, 74.08A.260, and 74.08A.270;  adding new sections to chapter 74.08A  RCW;  and creating a new section.

 

Brief Description:  Modifying provisions concerning temporary assistance for needy families.

Background:  When a recipient is initially approved to receive temporary assistance for needy families they are required to begin an immediate job search.  If they are unsuccessful at the job search they are assessed to identify any barriers to employment and directed to an approved work related activity.

 

Summary of Bill:  After a recipient is approved to received temporary assistance for needy families they will be subject to an employability screening.  If they are determined to be unemployable, or meet the good cause exemption for work requirements, they will skip the job search activity and be immediately assessed to determine their specific barriers to employment.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Requested on January 26, 1999.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
