Sponsors:  Representatives H. Sommers, Huff and O'Brien; by request of Department of Social and Health Services.

House Committee on Appropriations

Senate Committee on Ways & Means

Background:

In 1998, Washington began receiving funds from the federal Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant.  These funds may be used for specific purposes as defined by federal laws and rules.

Federal law requires states receiving grants to deposit the grant moneys into a trust account that retains its own interest.

Summary:

The Juvenile Accountability Incentive Account is established as an appropriated account in the custody of the State Treasurer.  Moneys received from the federal Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant must be deposited in the account.

The account retains its own interest earnings, rather than having the interest be distributed to the state general fund.
