Adding an ex officio member to the building code council.

BACKGROUND:

 

The State Building Code Council adopts and maintains the various codes of the State Building Code.  The council must approve or deny all county or city amendments to the State Building Code to the extent that the amendments apply to single or multifamily residential buildings.  The council may issue advisory opinions relating to the codes at the request of a local building code enforcement official.

 

The State Building Code Council is comprised of fifteen members consisting of local government representatives and industry professionals.  There are also members who are appointed as ex-officio non-voting members representing the Legislature, and the electrical division of the Department of Labor and Industries.   One member must be a local fire service official, however there is currently no representation from the state level of fire protection.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The state director of fire protection is added to the list of members included as ex-officio, non-voting members.
