Requesting businesses owned by disabled persons be a subcategory of minority business enterprises.


    TO THE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF MINORITY AND WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISES:

    We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

    WHEREAS, The state has a strong interest in enhancing opportunities for disabled persons who own and control businesses to compete in the free market and support themselves through gainful employment; and

    WHEREAS, The state should encourage fair and equal opportunities for disabled persons who own and control businesses to be awarded public contracts;

    NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists request that the office of minority and women's business enterprises certify businesses owned and controlled by disabled persons as a subcategory of minority business enterprises.

    BE IT RESOLVED, That a copy of this Memorial be transmitted to the director of the office of minority and women's business enterprises.
