SENATE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION

Majority Report:  That Second Substitute Senate Bill No. 5079 be substituted therefor, and the second substitute bill do pass.

Signed by Senators Haugen, Chair; Gardner, Vice Chair; Benton, Eide, Finkbeiner, Horn, Kastama, Keiser, McDonald, Oke, Prentice, T. Sheldon, Shin and Swecker.

Staff:  Dean Carlson (786‑7305)

Background:  In 2000, SB 6865 repealed the motor vehicle excise tax, as well as the excise tax on travel trailers and campers.  As a result, several references to these repealed statutes were left in other statutes.

Summary of Second Substitute Bill:  References to the motor vehicle excise tax are removed from several statutes in Titles 46 and 82.

Second Substitute Bill Compared to Original Bill:  This bill is a technical correction bill eliminating references to the motor vehicle excise tax.  The original had some unintentional effect on the regional transit authority excise tax, so the substitute corrects that so there is no effect.  Further technical corrections are made.

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
