Title:  An act relating to wildlife conservation awards.

 

Brief Description:  Creating the wildlife conservationist award program.

Background:  Many individuals volunteer to improve the conditions for wildlife and native plants within the state.

 

If these conservationists were officially recognized, then their contributions would become more widely known and conservation efforts would receive more support.

 

Summary of Bill:  The Art Kruckeberg Award is presented annually to the person most deserving that conserves wild plants and plant communities.  The Hazel Wolf Award is an annual presentation to the outstanding person in the field of conserving wild animals and animal communities.  The Department of Fish and Wildlife must develop guidelines for selecting award recipients.

 

The recipient of each award is entitled to select a nonprofit wildlife conservation organization to receive a sum of up to $25,000 from the state for the purposes of furthering plant or wildlife conservation activities.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Requested on January 12, 2001.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
