Title:  An act relating to preserving a variety of natural environments on private lands in a voluntary program of natural landmarks.

 

Brief Description:  Establishing a voluntary natural landmark registry.

Background:  Washington currently provides for the preservation of agricultural and timber lands by offering tax benefits if the agricultural or timber use of the land is maintained.  Currently there are no provisions that provide for the preservation of unique natural landmarks.

 

Summary of Bill:  An owner of a natural landmark is allowed to register the landmark.  If the landmark meets certain qualifications and is protected by a conservation easement, the landowner receives tax benefits.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
