Title:  An act relating to study of kinship caregiver services.

 

Brief Description:  Creating a work group to study kinship caregiver services.

Background:  A national survey done in 1998 revealed that over 38,000 children in Washington State are being raised by their grandparents.  A study will help determine the scope of needs of these relative care providers.

 

Summary of Bill:  The Washington State Institute for Public Policy is directed to convene a work group to study the needs of relative care providers.  Work group representatives must include a variety of entities that provide services to this population.  A report must be provided to the Legislature by December, 2001.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Requested on January 17, 2001.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
