Background:  The Department of Licensing (DOL) collects the vast bulk of all transportation fees and taxes.  DOL was asked to examine its transportation related fees and determine if the existing fees are recovering the cost to collect those fees.  As a result of the fee analysis, DOL has identified numerous fees that are not covering the cost of collection.

 

Summary of Bill:  Ten transportation fees are increased.  They are:  Duplicate Drivers Licenses, Identicards, Duplicate Identicards, Photo and Non-photo Instruction Permits, Duplicate Instruction Permits, Copies of Driver Records, Title Applications, Trip Permits, and $30 registration fees on travel trailers and personal trailers greater than 2,000 pounds.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Requested on February 9, 2002.

 

Effective Date:  The bill takes effect on July 1, 2002.
