HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2001-4617, by Representatives Cody and Veloria

 

     WHEREAS, Community and Migrant Health Centers provide quality primary health care to low-income citizens and the uninsured at over seventy-seven clinic sites throughout Washington state, serving over two hundred seventy-five thousand individuals annually; and

     WHEREAS, Community and Migrant Health Centers remove economic, cultural, geographic, and other barriers to accessing medical services; use a sliding fee scale based on the patient's income; and never deny medical services because of a person's inability to pay for services; and

     WHEREAS, Community and Migrant Health Centers are governed by nonprofit organizations with community-based boards of directors that represent the patients served, and function as an integral part of the communities they serve; and

     WHEREAS, Community and Migrant Health Centers operate forty-eight dental clinics, serving over one hundred seven thousand individuals, including adults and children, who have no other access to dental care; and

     WHEREAS, Community and Migrant Health Centers provide comprehensive health care services, including family and internal medicine, dental care, WIC and nutrition services, and translation and social service support by highly qualified teams of professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and social workers;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the state of Washington commend and honor the commitment and contributions of Community and Migrant Health Centers to the health and well-being of Washington's citizens; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Co-Chief Clerks of the House of Representatives to the Community and Migrant Health Centers of Washington state.
