Asking the federal government for cooperation with the military facilities task force.


    TO THE HONORABLE GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES, IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED, AND TO THE HONORABLE DONALD RUMSFELD, SECRETARY OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE:

    We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

    WHEREAS, The state of Washington places the highest priority on the continuation of military activities at the military bases located in our state; and

    WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the state to avoid the closing of these bases and the privatization of the infrastructure of these bases will mitigate against such closure; and

    WHEREAS, The state of Washington recognizes the need for and supports the accomplishment of the mutually beneficial privatization of the supporting infrastructure for these military bases; and

    WHEREAS, The Joint Committee on Veterans' and Military Affairs exists in the Legislature of the state of Washington in order to concentrate the combined civilian efforts to facilitate the continued working partnerships with these military bases; and

    WHEREAS, The Governor of the state of Washington joins in these concerns and takes an active leadership role in achieving these goals; and

    WHEREAS, The Legislature of the state of Washington sponsors and expects immediate passage and enactment of legislation establishing the Legislative Military Facilities Task Force, to be chaired by the Governor of the State of Washington; and

    WHEREAS, This Task Force's primary goal is to create the legislative framework required best to facilitate the privatization of that infrastructure chosen to be desirable for that treatment by the Task Force; and

    WHEREAS, The state of Washington seeks the essential cooperation and participation of the United States Military in accomplishing these goals;

    NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that Congress assures full and prompt participation by the United States Military with the Legislative Military Facilities Task Force of the State of Washington.

    BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable George W. Bush, President of the United States, the Honorable Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of the United States Department of Defense, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and each member of Congress from the State of Washington.
