Background: Current law authorizes the Department of Social and Health Services to establish co-payment, deductible, and co-insurance requirements for participation in Medicaid and other state-funded medical programs. There is no explicit authority for other forms of participant cost-sharing, such as monthly premium payments, or annual enrollment fees.

 

Summary of Bill: The department is authorized to establish other cost-sharing requirements for recipients of medical assistance programs.

 

Appropriation: None.

 

Fiscal Note: Not requested.

 

Effective Date: The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect on July 1, 2003.
