Background: Under current law, the only entities permitted to group self-insure for workers' compensation benefits are two or more school districts or educational service districts; public hospital districts or hospitals owned or operated by the state or local government; and other hospitals not publicly owned.

 

Summary of Bill: Two or more public transportation benefit areas (PTBA) or one PTBA and at least one county public transportation authority may group self-insure to provide workers' compensation benefits.

 

Appropriation: None.

 

Fiscal Note: Requested on February 5, 2004.

 

Effective Date: Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
