   On page 3, after line 12, insert the following:

   "(8) "Therapeutic cloning" or "embryo cloning" means the use of somatic cell nuclear transfer performed with the purpose of creating a cloned human organism to be used for scientific experimentation and then destroyed."

EFFECT: Defines "therapeutic cloning" to mean the use of somatic cell nuclear transfer to create a cloned human organism for scientific experimentation. Changes the definition of "somatic cell nuclear transfer" and "cloning" from allowing the cell to divide until it reaches the blastocyst stage of development to allowing the cell to divide until it becomes an embryo. Expands the prohibition on the reproductive cloning of a human being to include the cloning of a human organism.
