Background:

The Oregon Territorial Legislature first created Island County on January 6, 1853. In 1891 the Washington Legislature modified the statute to establish County boundaries for Island County that include the following islands:


Summary of Substitute Bill:

The statutory boundary provisions for Island County are revised to include Strawberry, Baby, Minor, and Kalamut Islands.


Appropriation: None.

Fiscal Note: Not requested.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

Testimony For: Revising the Island County boundaries to include Strawberry, Baby, Minor and Kalamut Islands would correct a legislative oversight in place for over 100 years. The revised boundary descriptions are also supported in the Senate.
