On page 3, after line 32 of the amendment, insert the following:
"(c) Grants may only be awarded when the department, in
collaboration with the department of health, verifies that exposure to
the buildup of saltwater algae or sea lettuce causes negative human
health outcomes. The department must not award grants for beach
beautification or saltwater algae or sea lettuce buildup that is not
causing negative human health outcomes."
EFFECT: Requires the department of ecology, in collaboration with the department of health to award grants from the saltwater algae control account only when they verify that exposure to the buildup of saltwater algae or sea lettuce causes negative human health outcomes. Prohibits the department of ecology from awarding grants for beach beautification or for saltwater algae or sea lettuce buildup that is not causing negative human health outcomes.
