Background:

The Liquor Control Board (Board) is charged with the administration of the Washington State Liquor Act (Act). As an agency, the Board operates the state liquor stores; oversees contract liquor stores; issues liquor licenses and permits; regulates the manufacture, distribution and sale of beer and wine; enforces liquor and tobacco laws; conducts education; and collects taxes.

Spirits, beer, and wine can be purchased at state liquor stores or contract liquor stores. State liquor stores do not currently have the authority to sell liquor-related products, although contract stores do.

Summary of Bill:

The Liquor Control Board is authorized to purchase alcohol-related products and sell them in state stores. Examples of liquor-related products could include but not be limited to: shakers, martini glasses, wine glasses, swizzle sticks, corkscrews, drink recipe books, gift bags or baskets, and bagged ice.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
