HOUSE COMMITTEE ON ECOLOGY & PARKS

Majority Report: Do pass. Signed by 15 members: Representatives Upthegrove, Chair; Rolfes, Vice Chair; Short, Ranking Minority Member; Chase, Dickerson, Dunshee, Eddy, Finn, Hudgins, Kretz, Kristiansen, Morris, Orcutt, Shea and Taylor.

Background:

In 2005 the Legislature adopted the California motor vehicle emission standards. Beginning with 2009 models, new vehicles (cars, light duty trucks, and passenger vehicles) must meet these emission standards to be registered, leased, rented, licensed, or sold for use in Washington. A new vehicle must meet these standards unless it is consistent with the emission standards adopted by the Department of Ecology or has 7,500 miles or more. A person who purchases a vehicle out-of-state that does not meet the emission standards will not be able to register, license, rent, or sell it for use in Washington.
