Background: Court reporters must be certified by the Department of Licensing (DOL). DOL has the authority to determine the requirements necessary to achieve certification. Certifications are subject to renewal. The criteria for renewal are established by DOL.
Summary of Bill: Continuing education is required for court reporters to renew their certifications. DOL establishes the content of these requirements.

Staff Summary of Public Testimony: PRO: Technological advances in the court reporting profession make continuing education necessary to maintain professional standards. This is particularly the case with voice recognition software. These technologies develop rapidly and court reporters need to continue to develop their skills accordingly.
