Majority Report: That Substitute Senate Joint Memorial No. 8007 be substituted therefor, and the substitute joint memorial do pass.

Background: Current law authorizes the Transportation Commission to name or rename state transportation facilities. The process to name or rename a facility can be initiated by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), state, and local governmental entities, citizen organizations, or by any individual person.

Kollin Nielson was a Project Manager with the Kiewit Pacific Construction Company in June of 2007 when he was hit and killed by a drunk driver while working on the I-405 project in Kirkland. Mr. Nielson is survived by his wife, Sara, and his young son.

Summary of Bill (Recommended Substitute): The Transportation Commission is requested to change the name of the NE 116th street overcrossing of I-405 in Kirkland to the Kollin Nielson Memorial Bridge.

EFFECT OF CHANGES MADE BY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE (Recommended Substitute): This bill was amended in committee to correct the spelling of Kollin Nielson's name. In the original bill it was spelled Nielsen.
