Title: An act relating to special license plates for motorcycles.

Majority Report: That Substitute Senate Bill No. 5063 be substituted therefor, and the substitute bill do pass.

Background: Currently, there are 36 special license plates displaying a symbol, artwork, or wording that honor various veteran groups, universities, organizations, parks and the environment, sports and hobbies, and service organizations and associations which are available through the Department of Licensing. The special license plates are available for use in lieu of regular or personalized license plates. All 36 of the special license plates are available for use on automobiles, however only 24 of the 36 special license plates are currently available for motorcycles.
Summary of Bill: The bill as referred to committee not considered.
Summary of Bill (Recommended Substitute): The Department of Licensing will make all special license plates, which were previously available to automobiles but not motorcycles, available for motorcycles. The special license plates that will become available for motorcycles include the following:
Purple Heart;
Pearl Harbor Survivor;
Former Prisoner of War;
Disabled Veteran;
Congressional Medal of Honor;
Evergreen State College;
Eastern Washington University;
University of Washington;
Washington State University;
Western Washington University;
Square Dancer; and
Baseball Stadium.
Continuing with current law prorated vehicles, essentially interstate trucks, will not be able to use any of the 12 special license plates, which will become available for motorcyclists.
