Background: According to the National Institutes of Health, patients with type 1 diabetes carry a high risk of developing eating disorders based on factors including restricted diets and a focus on weight control. Insulin omission for weight control has been reported in 11 to 15 percent of adolescents, and 30 to 39 percent of adults living with diabetes. The practice can lead to early onset of serious diabetes complications such as blindness, amputations, or death.

Summary: The Department of Health must make links on its website to existing information on diabulimia, an eating disorder associated with individuals with type 1 diabetes by December 1, 2020.
